ISAAC LEVY, (May, 15, 1919-June, 27, 1977) composer, was born in Manisa, next to Izmir. He immigrated to Israel together with his parents at the age of 3. He studied music and voice development in conservatories in Jerusalem and in Tel Aviv. Among his mentors we can mention the famous teacher and opera singer Herman Yadlovker, who was Caruso`s colleague in the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Isaac Levy composed music for verses from the Bible as well as for hymns written by the Golden Age poets in Spain such as Yehuda Halevy, Ibn Gabirol, Ibn Ezra and others. He also composed music for lyric songs and nursery rhymes.
From 1955 he was in charge of the daily broadcasts in "Spanyolit", (Judeo-Spanish) in Kol Israel. And beginning in 1963 he was nominated director of the Ethnic Music Section in the Israeli Radio.
He collected, compiled and published 10 volumes of the Anthology of Sephardic Cantorial Music and 4 volumes of Romances and Sephardic Folk Songs.
